Co-Curated by Holiday Exploits

Maxwell Colette Gallery is pleased to present EQUILIBRIO, a two-person exhibition featuring new paintings from Brazilian artists Rodrigo Level and Gabriel Kieling. The show is co-curated by Holiday Exploits, who will be releasing prints by the artists in conjunction with the exhibition.

Level and Kieling exemplify a new breed of Brazilian artist who are able to move freely between the disparate worlds of the gallery and the streets without losing credibility in either. Beyond this, the two are united by more than just medium and technique. Themes of harmony, balance, tranquility and sensuality are explored by both artists. The work is a reaction to the urban chaos that defines life in contemporary Sao Paulo, a metropolis currently rocked by waves of social and political upheaval. Both artists believe that their connection to Art is a profound one. Says Level: “Art…is everything around you. We live art daily. Everything comes from artistic creation.”

About the Artists:
Rodrigo Level currently resides in a small town south of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He began as a street artist in the mid 1990s in his own hometown of Sao Paulo. Rodrigo gathers humanity into his work to communicate the stillness and depth that fills the inner sanctum of our being. Gabriel Kieling is an architect. Born and raised in downtown Sao Paulo, the city has always played a major role in his life and his work. His style is inspired by Brazilian Cordel Art, but fused with the graceful sensuality of European artists like Gustav Klimt and Egon Shiele. Both Level and Kieling have been exhibited previously in galleries Brazil and the USA and have had their work appear in numerous blogs and magazines including Juxtapoz.
